I can’t take credit for this idea, it was given to me by one of our clients, Janine Winfield of Alternative events. It’s a great way to display news, press and blog content in a list, with links to the full content with no need for extra modules and fees.

It’s a great idea, here’s a demo: https://www.alternativeai.co.uk/alternative-view/.

  1. Add a new sponsor type: “News story”, “Blog Post”….
    Admin > Sponsors > Sponortypes
  2. Add New sponsors tagged to the group “News story”. Use the Sponsor Logo for the featured image that is displayed in the list. Use the Sponsor URL to link to more information.
Admin > Sponsors > Add New Sponsor

We are working on a new Blog pack with lots of enhanced features – contact us for more info.

A standard, you have an disk space allocation of 50 Meg on the mira.cx platform. When you reach that limit you have 2 options:

  1. Pay for an unlimited amount of storage – at a cost of £10 per month or £100 for the year.
  2. Delete some stuff.

How to stay within the limit:

You can tell how much of the disk space you have used up by looking on the dashboard.

TIP #1 – When you upload images onto the website, WordPress keeps the original file as well as the versions used on the site. It is therefore important that when you upload files onto the site, they are as small as possible.

Screen Shot 2014-11-12 at 12.33.54

In the example above, the file uploaded is 591k (1/2 Meg or 2.3% of the available space. It is a 2 colour logo and should be no bigger than 5k.

We have created a blog post on how to reduce the file size of an image here – Managing Picture Sizes without Photoshop.

You can also reduce the size of PDF documents.

TIP #2 – Finding & Deleting unwanted files & data

Not only does old data and information use up valuable disk space, there is also a risk that out-of-date information will be picked up by Google.

  1. Start by removing pages, posts, seminars, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and associated tracks, dates and groups.
  2. Look in the media library for media marked as “unattached” and delete it
  3. Remember to remove it permanently from the system.

Add files, PDF presentations, documents, slides to the session

  1. Edit the session.
  2. Half way down the page, there is a section “presentation documents”

Screen Shot 2016-02-25 at 16.10.17

Add the list of seminars with presentations to a page

  1. From the Visual Page builder, click on Add Seminar buttons from the content selection
  2. At the bottom of the pop-up window is an option to display the files

What are 404 pages?

The 404 page on a website is displayed when there is a request for a page that cannot be found on the site. So for example, just goto http://www.bbc.co.uk/load-of-old-noncense.

So why would I want to edit them?

Because they are your customers and they are not finding what they are looking for – this is bad!

So what content should I add to the 404 page?

If you could try and second guess why they are on the 404 page and start from there. So example content could be:

  • Links to direct them to the CTA or content you might want to draw attention to.
  • An apology – they have landed there our of no fault of their own (more than likely) and so you are not serving them

Any examples of good 404 pages?

As with most things in life, the starting point is google:

What is it

It’s a collection of widgets, design options and tools to help you layout pages better.

The 1 page Home Page:

It is now possible to set the page template to “Full Width” and create a Home Page that lists all the key content from the Event. The page is split up into sections and then filled with content from the website.

Example: Internet of things, DWTC: http://www.iotx.ae/

Each section within a page can be assigned:

  • Full Width Y/N and padding options
  • Background colour, image or video content

Each section then becomes a container to fill with content. The sections can be split into columns, each column with a width of 1/6, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2.

Content can then be added:

Content Types to be added to sections

This is an automatic upgrade – you will see this reflected in your dashboard.

If this is not marked as 50Meg, please raise a support ticket and we’ll upgrade it manually.

You can also upgrade this further at an additional fee.

Many thanks, enjoy.

Pop-ups are a great way to draw your visitors attention to a specific CTA.

Many thanks for the Marketing Team at BME Global for working this out. It’s always fascinating to see how our clients use our sites – particularly if we’ve haven’t thought of it before.

prismblog

We’ve piled our knowledge in the exhibition website industry into making our brand new theme ‘Prism’. Designed for a larger website with more tools, widgets and customisations it packs a punch.

Layouts to suit you.

Over the years we’ve learnt just how quickly sites can grow from a small splash page to 100+ pages packed full of content for visitors and exhibitors. Prism features the options you need to grow your site. One sidebar or two, menu down the left or across the top.

The customizer, our most powerful design editor yet.

You can customize the site colors, sidebar content, background and header creative whilst looking at your website. Less time going back and forth from admin to the visitor view.

Designed for a larger website

The conference websites theme (now named ‘The Sphere Theme’) was great but we noticed an increase in requests to change the navigation, the top nav was toorestrictive for events with conferences and exhibitions.

‘Prism’ should have more space than you’d ever need. The navigation across the top is now optional, you could put it in the sidebar instead (Or have both!).

Combined with the new action bar, two sidebars you can pack in the content you need as your event grows.

Call to action!

The ‘action bar’ is a feature we’ve introduced to give you more exposure to your key sponsors or links. Sitting above your site content it’s guaranteed a view.

Teaser Boxes

Screen Shot 2014-10-24 at 11.11.45It’s always a great idea to finish each page with a lead into the next. The new teaser box tool lets you drop in a clear prompt to the user of where you want. Whether it’s registration, exhibitor information or a photo gallery at the end of the show.

Footer Widgets

The sidebar real-estate can be precious, even though we added an extra sidebar for Prism we also went one better by adding four new areas for your footer.

Available Now

The Prism theme can be used with any of the conference or exhibition packages.
