Search engine tools – 5 SEO sites

1. SEO Category @ AllTop

link: http://seo.alltop.com/

You’ll get a mix of PPC & Social Media posts here as well, but for the most part any quality SEO posts seems to rise to the top here.

2. SEO Topic @ Quora

Followed by over 11,000 people, the SEO topic on quora.com is worth subscribing too. It is often flooded with more beginner’ish SEO questions, but even those get very quality answers.

If you haven’t joined Quora yet, I’d highly recommend it. You can follow me here: http://www.quora.com/Scott-Krager

3. Search Engine Land

Link: http://searchengineland.com/

While you’ll find their top posts all over twitter most days, I still like to visit the site to see other stories that maybe didn’t make it big. SEL breaks big stories from time to time and editor in chief Danny Sullivan is an SEO legend.

4. Hacker News

While not really an SEO focused aggregator, it’s the one place you might catch Matt Cutts replying to comments. It’s also a great source for any breaking Google news. It’s not an SEO friendly place for the most part, but a suprising number of SEOs are very active there including Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz (randfish) and Patrick McKenzie (patio11) of BingoCardCreator SEO fame.

5. Webmaster World – Google Forum

One of the older webmaster forums around, the Google forum on WMW is still very, very active. Alot of it is, “OMG, the sky is falling, Google killed my site!” but there is some quality signals you can pickup here. Always a good spot to check if you suspect a Google algorithm update might not just be you.

New: Inbound.org

Link: http://inbound.org

It’s like reddit or hacker news, but for digital marketers. Lots of great SEO stories. I’m not a huge fan of the whole ‘inbound’ branded movement, I think the name is awful (‘SEO’ is just now going mainstream)…but the content here is fantastic.

What do you read to stay current?

I’d love to know what you read to stay ahead of SEO trends! What did I miss?
